A place unique, mystical, blessed, full of natural beauties that awaits you to explore.
Corfu island is one of the greenest of the Greek islands and is large enough to make it possible to escape the crowds even in peak season. Sandy beaches, clear seas, magical sunsets, cypress-studded hills, and vertiginous villages have made this Ionian island a summertime favorite. What makes Corfu such a popular summer destination is the warm Mediterranean climate which certainly captivates tourists and allows them to enjoy various activities. Here, lush landscapes meet golden beaches and historic landmarks for a timeless destination brimming with old memories and warm hospitality.
Corfu (Korfu, Kerkyra) is also famous for its stunning beaches. During your stay at Angela Hotel & Apartments, we recommend visiting the nearby beach of Gouvia. Other lovely Corfu beaches are the bays of Agios Georgios and Paleokastritsa, Arillas, Peroulades, and Sidari on the northwestern coast of the island, and Agios Gordios, Chalikounas, Issos, and Agios Georgios on the western and southwestern side of Corfu. The beaches of Kavos, Messonghi, and Moraitika on the southeastern coast are lovely, while Acharavi, Roda, Dasia, and Ipsos, located on the northeastern side are also wonderful. Check out the exact location on these beaches in your map of Corfu and visit as many as you like.
The island gets its name “Polis ton Korifon”, which means “City of the Peaks” which describes the two fortresses in the capital town. While visiting Corfu (Korfu, Kerkyra) visitors will get the feeling that they have stepped back in time due to the wonderful Venetian architecture and quaint settlements throughout the island, while at the same time, Corfu is a progressive island hosting many businesses, cultural and commercial events.
Corfu is full of sites of historical interest, such as the Old Fortress, the New Fortress, the canon, Spianada Square (with its buildings) and Liston Promenade, and the Archaeological, Byzantine and Asian Art Museums in the capital town, as well as Achillion (Austrian Princess Sissy’s Summer Palace) in Gastouri and the Monastery of Zoodochou Pigis in Paleokastritsa. The island also has many monasteries and churches worth visiting. During the summer months, philharmonic orchestras perform at the lovely kiosk in Spianada Square
